The feast of the Ascension is forty days after Pascha. Since Easter is always a Sunday, the Ascension therefore always falls on a Thursday. While we sing Christ is Risen and greet each other in this way until the day before Ascension, it does seem that Pascha is far away in the rear view mirror. The Ascension marks a turning point, and begins a ten-day waiting period until Pentecost - another great feast of the Church.
